Ingredients

  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 1 bell pepper red, yellow, or orange will work
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons avocado or olive oil
  • 1 pound ground/minced beef or pork
  • ¼ cup water

Taco Seasoning Mix

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder this is a blended spice you can buy in the U.S. that contains chili pepper, cumin, salt, oregano, and garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon sea or Himalayan salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne optional

Instructions

  • Put 2 tablespoons of oil in your pot. Sauté onion, peppers, and garlic over medium heat for 5-6 minutes until soft.
  • Crumble your ground/minced meat into the pot and turn heat to high. Get a nice sear/brown on the meat. Sometimes your meat might have a lot of water in it, let it cook out completely. Then you will be able to get it nice and browned. You can decide if you want bigger chunks of meat or break it up more for fine meat crumbles. Cook all the way through. Time will vary depending on how much water is expelled. 15-25 minutes
  • Throw in your spice mixture and stir into your meat. Add ¼ cup of water to help combine it all.
  • Season to taste with more salt and pepper if needed.

Notes

***This spice seasoning mix is good for 1 pound of meat.
***Chili powder needs to be a blend not just straight ground chilis. I learned this the hard way when I moved abroad and could not figure out why my food was turning out so spicy.
