I know you constantly hear that hydration is so important to good health and it is. Although, drinking just plain water may not be your best bet when it comes to hydration. Just adding a few simple things to your water will not only make it taste better, but it will also allow your body to absorb and hydrate your cells quicker and more efficiently. If you exercise often, live in a very hot climate (Qatar is HOT right now), work outside, or just simply want to feel more energized throughout the day (dehydration will zap your energy) then you want to try out this recipe to keep you hydrated all year long.

I do love the brand LMNT, it is an electrolyte packet that you put in your water. Comes in great flavors and also has magnesium in it. LMNT uses stevia to sweeten it. I am not a huge fan of the aftertaste of stevia but prefer it to refined sweeteners. I live in Qatar and unfortunately, they do not have LMNT for sale here. I am not a big fan of shipping things if the shipping fees cost more than the product you are buying. I decided to just start making my own instead. It is easy, and cost-effective, and you choose what goes in it. That is a WIN-WIN in my book.

When making a big change to your diet, as in going Paleo, doing a Whole30, or eating low carb, it is extremely important to make sure that you are giving your body plenty of sodium. Otherwise, you become dehydrated, sluggish, have brain fog, feel achy, and just feel downright crappy. Sipping on this homemade Electrolyte Water throughout the day will keep you hydrated and feeling great!

All you need to make this is water, fruit, and Himalayan salt. I change up what I put in my water depending on what fruit I have available at home. I prefer citrus fruits as they contain a good bit of vitamin C and we can always use more Vit C. You can use lemons, lime, grapefruit, orange, etc. You can mix different juices as well. Next up salt, Himalayan salt contains up to 84 different trace minerals. This makes it the powerhouse of salt when used for hydration. I do not prefer any sweetener in my electrolyte water, you could add a splash of honey, maple syrup, or liquid stevia if you prefer a bit of sweetness. I like to put all this into a big 32 oz water bottle, give it a big shake, and viola you have homemade Electrolyte Water.
