For some people the most difficult thing when switching to a Paleo diet is giving up bread. There is also no better feeling than when you find a great Paleo “bread” replacement. I have been making this Paleo naan recipe for awhile and always tweaking it here and there trying to make it better each time. I have finally perfected it, it is crisp on the outside, cheesy and stretchy on the inside. The best part is it only needs a few ingredients to make. I use Violife vegan shreds as my cheese, but feel free to use whatever you like. You can also leave out the cheese all together. They are gluten-free, grain-free, and have no sugar in them. We love to dip them into curry and they also pair perfectly with my Dairy-Free Cream of Asparagus Soup.
The main staples of this Paleo Naan are almond and tapioca flour, mixed into coconut milk. Very simple ingredients, then I elevate the batter with spices and Vegan cheese. There is a two-part cooking process to get these perfectly crisp. First, I cook them on my griddle like a pancake. I cook them on medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side. Lower the heat if you think they will burn. You want them to have a nice golden color on each side. I then finish them off by placing them on a baking rack, in the middle of the oven, and broiling them on high heat for 4-5 mins on each side. This is the trick to get them nice and crisp. Do not put them close to the broiler but on the middle rack, otherwise, they will burn quickly. I like to use the fan assist broil or convection broil setting. These settings will help to cook the naan like an air fryer. If you have a large air fryer you could also crisp them up in it. This will make 6-7 naan or more if you make them smaller. Enjoy!

Paleo Cheese Naan
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup superfine almond flour
- 1/2 cup tapioca flour
- 1 cup full fat coconut milk
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/4 cup vegan cheese, I used Violife shreds or use whatever cheese you like
Instructions
- Heat up your griddle or frying pan to medium heat. Preheat your oven to fan assist or the convection broil setting.
- Mix all dry ingredients, salt and spices together. Then stir in your milk. Lastly, add in your cheese if using it.
- Pour a small amount of batter onto griddle or pan. You want it nice and thin. Use the back of the spoon to smooth it out to make it thin.
- Cook on each side for 4-5 minutes or until each side is nice and golden. Turn down the heat if you think it will burn.
- Once all cooked, place each naan on a baking rack. Place in the middle of rack of the oven on the broil setting.
- Broil for 4-5 minutes. Flip them over and broil the other side. Each side should become crisp.
- Serve immediately to keep warm and crisp.
